Reverend Master Meiten, M.O.B.C.

Reverend Meiten McGuire

Reverend Master Meiten McGuire was a monk and Master of the Order of Buddhist Contemplatives. She was born in California in 1926 and received her Ph.D in Psychology in 1952. In her professional life she practiced clinical psychology in both the United States and Canada.

Rev. Meiten began a spiritual journey in 1972 and in 1978 this journey led her to Shasta Abbey in California, where the following year she received ordination as a Buddhist monk from Reverend Master Jiyu-Kennett, Founder of the Order of Buddhist Contemplatives. In the year 2000 Rev. Meiten was named a Master of the Order. In 2003 Rev. Meiten came to Victoria, and began teaching Serene Reflection Meditation, and in 2006 she founded the Vancouver Island Zen Sangha. Rev. Master Meiten died peacefully in Victoria in 2018 at the age of 91.
